Standing or sitting on a bike, which is more exercise?

Standing or sitting on a bike, which is more exercise?

It isn't really which is 'more excercise', but which is more work. You can get just as much of a workout while seated and working really hard as you would by standing, but standing uses a different set of muscles in different ways. You can also develop more power by standing, since you can effectively use your upper body to move the bike by pulling on the handlebars while pushing on the pedals. Standing develop power with that method, but you will tire very quickly. However, If you stand on the pedals on flat ground and use your body weight to turn the pedals rather than pull and push, you may actually use _less_ energy than seated given the same speed.

Like everything in life, it isn't necessarily what you do, but how you do it.
standing
sitting because you dont have the weight behind you
sitting with your back straight
standing
There's a reason why there's a seat on a bicycle =D

As long as the seat is high enough so that your legs fully extend when you pedal, you'll have a great exercise.

Hell yeah I love bicycling!
Actually, PEDALING gives the most exercise! :-)
