Exercise during pregnancy? |
I saw a young woman today at the gym of roughly about 20-25 years of age.. Probably closer to 20. She appeared to be atleast 5 months pregnant. while I was there i saw her run for approximately an hour on the treadmil. She was walking at a very brisk pace the entire time, even more of a jog. She then got on the exercise bike and proceeded to go extremely fast also. i know exercise is good during pregnany. but in anyones opinion was this too much?? and hour seems like a very very long time. God, I'm jealous. I'm on exercise restrictions because I'm having some complications. They took away my weightlifting and my running! They used to say "absolutely no running" if you were pregnant, but further research has proved that if you have a competent cervix and you're otherwise in shape there is no problem continuing until your balance shifts significantly. The exercise bicycle is one of the best things, actually, one of the few I'm allowed to do. It's low stress on your legs while letting you get cardiovascular exercise in. Before I was pregnant, I would regularly do 45 min on treadmill followed by 15 min on stairclimber, then my weight training and finish up with a cardiovascular opposite my weight training (ie, bicycle on day I did arms, rowing machine on day I did legs.) So if she was in pretty good shape, I'm guessing she probably had a somewhat similar exercise routine going pre-pregnancy, and sounds like she's cut it down. Speculation, of course, but I don't think the routine you described is a problem if she was handling it okay. Oh, and the "couch potato" type "don't lift, don't work, don't do anything" theories listed above? Complete bedrest is only if you're having very serious complications, and occassionally if there are multiples. And if my mother had not been lifting, working, and generally moving like crazy, I'm pretty sure there wouldn't have been anything resembling a decent home when we were young since she had three healthy children and my father kept being sent out of country for months at a time. None of us were injured in utero, thanks. Quiet fatty. Dont be jealous shes faster then you. I HOPE SHE'S FOLLOWING HER DR'S GUIDELINES This is very very bad to exercise during pregnancy. doctor says to do not do work and lift anything because t is very harmful for child. but exercise during pregnancy is very very harmful and also 1 hour??? GOD SAVE THE CHILD Not even a little because it will be harmful for your health as well as for the baby's!!!! maybe she was used to it before she was pregnant..shes not having any difficulties about it! it depends on a womans body actually and health Exercise during pregnancy is 100% safe. To an extent. Light jogging/running is safe too. BUT, to be going as fast as you say she was going, is NOT safe. My DR recommended that if I run or jog, do it for a half hour to and hour, at a moderate pace and take a break every five minutes (as in a walking break). Other exercises for pregnant women may include squats, lifting weights (up to 10 lbs), and SMALL things like that. But anything to excessive isnt good for either baby or mom. If you notice that she is probably OVERworking herself, I would report her to the gym trainer or someone else. It really shouldnt be any of your concern, but I have seen people out there myself over exercising while pregnant (because they thought they were getting too fat!!). I actually know someone who lost her baby due to exercising and NOT EATING! Pathetic. But, the bike thing, that is okay for her to go as fast as she wants to, as long as she dont get her heart rate too fast. |
