Is this exercise routine enough??? |
About me: I am 25 years old, 5'7" 250 lbs, Female-very inactive, I have lost 30lbs over the last year, but have come to a plateau... I've decreased my calorie intake and am exercising Mon, Wed, Fri: I walk on treadmill for 10 minutes (speed at 3) Exercise bike for 10 minutes Then treadmill again for 10 minutes (speed at 2.5-3) Tues and Thurs We are going to start laps in the pool for about 30 minutes What do you think? to lose weight you have to do cardio 30-50min 4-6 times a week - ideally 45min because the first 20-30min body burns carbs and only then starts burning fat - you aslo should do some weight training to tone muscle and not lose it (more muscle =faster metabolism) you also have to eat healthy and enough calories to lose fat otherwise all you will lose is gona be water weight and muscle. the fact that you were losing weight slowly but steady all last year is a good indicator that you were getting enough calories. when you hit plateau you have to change your exercise routine - keep your body guessing. dont lower calories. Congratulations on losing 30 lbs. so far, that is a great accomplishment. I would like to suggest that you consistently exercise doing cardio for a minimum of 20 minutes on one machine to get the best benefits. You need to reach a target cardio heart rate and it's best if you do it for at least 20 minutes per machine. Try to change it up some. At the gym, I like to do the elliptical, and vary the routine, but I go for 30 minutes. Then I either do the exercise bike or treadmill for 30 minutes. If it's too easy, try and add incline or resistance so you don't plateau. Swimming is also great for your entire body, that's great that you are doing that. One more thing I would like to suggest, is to do some light weight training. I would suggest lifting dumbbells, and using other weight machines at least 3 times a week for 20 minutes each time. When you build muscle, you can continuously burn calories all day long. It's also more fun that I thought it would be, because you gain strength! Along with a healthy diet of lean protein, veggies & fruits, I think you will do wonderfully. Good luck to you and I hope this helps! Keep up the great work and have fun with it! :) Experience in the gym, SELF & Shape magazines. |
