Knee problem due to exercise?

Well, I do around half an hour on my cross-trainer every night, and sometimes on my exercise bike too. Lately I鈥檓 getting a bit of a clickly left knee which hurts a little when I bend it (nothing major). Any suggestions on what I should do, or not do? I鈥檝e been sticking to this routine for 6 months or more, only just started to get this problem.

No cheeky remarks about my age either, I鈥檓 only 25! ;) I鈥檓 about average size and height, got a big frame but all the weights in my legs, really muscular due to walking to work and exercise. I take cod-liver oil, eat healthy, but I do have quite a bit of caffeine (if that makes a difference?!).

If the pain feels like it's at the front or the side of your neecap on the outside, then it's likely to be damage to the small muscles that hold your neecap in place. If the pain feels like it's inside your knee on the inside then it's either damage to the cartilage or the back of your kneecap going soft through over-use (very common in pro cyclists)

Either way, give it a rest for a couple of weeks to allow it to heal a bit. If you keep going, you stand a good chance of ending up with a knackered knee and months of pain. Source(s): Competitive cyclist and triathlete. Been there, done that!

knees are really fragile and can be easily ruined, in runners especially. my dad was a professional runner, and now at the age of 60 he has had 2 knee replacements.
sorry, but you must really take care of your knees at a young age, his 1st knee op was at the age of 32.
you should work your upper body more (if you love sport) and make sure you have very very good running shoes.
sport is good for you, but like everything, excess spells disaster.
Aloe vera gel, to be taken in the morning on an empty stomach, helps any injuries to heal. You say you are taking cod liver oil. That's fine but for now, you could try switching to a product that contains chondroitine and glucosamine that support the joints. Until healed, don't do any work-outs where the weight is on the knee, like running or biking. Swimming should be fine. Hope you feel better soon! And if not, show your knee to a doctor specialising in sports traumas.
Try Low impact training for a while, swimming, weights. If you continue others have answered what might happen, cartlidge etc. I am heathy, ex military and did martial arts no knocks just one day right knee hurt like hell, resulted in a Arthroscopy (key hole) and only relieved pain a little, now informed may have to have knee replacement in 3-5 years.

Take care now and not later.
personnal experiance.
