When it comes to exercise, is quality or quanity better? |
I am not in the best shape, and I am a stay at home mom, and have recently purchased an exercise bike. I can either give my full effort, and go for a few minutes at once (I know its not long, but I am going as fast and as long as I can). And I always work out a sweat and can feel it in my legs. Or I can, do 30 minutes at once, once a day with light effort while the baby sleeps. Usually by the end of the thirty minutes I have broken a little sweat. Which is better for weight loss, and why. I want to work out to my maximum potential. i'd say if you are a beginner, just do what you can. max yourself out, some way or another. try aim for quality first, then if you can't get anymore quality reps in, go for quantity then. then when you improve, also improve your quality. that's what i did, and that's what that extremely large lady did to richard simmon's program. she was SUPER overweight but started off moving her arms a lil then eventually got the whole thing down. if you are athletic, you MUST go with quality. that's from the gym jone's sneak peek videos. (the place that trained gerald butler and the rest of the 300 crew). Form is always divinely mandatory when it comes to weight lifting so that you don't end up injuring yourself. With cardiovascular work out it is all about the heart rate, so going a few minutes as hard as you can will not do anything. You need to get your heart pumping and work out for about a half hour. So when you work out for th thirty minutes it is good just raise the intensity a little so you are a little more out of breath and you break a good sweat. its all about mixing Q and Q in your case - if you do 30 mins of on and off intensive to mild you'll get much better results -do a hard cycle for 2mins then cool off your speed for 2 mins, hard again for 2, and so on until 30 mins is up -- but make sure you push yourself in the intensive parts -you will see better results! -you have to catch your fat off guard to get rid of it quickly. oh, and be cautious with your nutrition. peace and good luck The more sweat the better the workout and the more calories you burn, but you should only exercise for an hour at the most dont over do it or youll have no energy the next day and only 3 times a week. Working as hard as you can for as long as you can will be the best way to get the results you want. As you get fitter you will notice that you are able to go a little bit longer. Working out this way will burn the maximum calories in minimum time, but will also help to improve your cardiovascular fitness. If you are exercising daily you could alternate between a hard/fast workout and a longer less intense workout just to change things up a bit. So long as you continue to challenge yourself you will reach your weightloss goals. I think quality is better. For example you can do do 1000 push-ups if you want but it will never work if you're doing it the wrong way. So for me you should dedicate your full effort for at least 30 minutes. You could also go for a 45 minutes stroll with your baby once a day. |
