What are the New York Scooter Laws?

I was looking to get a motor scooter but I think the law says I can't drive it. What are the laws for it? Or is a electric scooter better? Can you drive them in public areas?

As the laws on motorcycles and scooters are pretty much the same all over, you must posess a license to drive one. The law is quite specific so read the requirements and restrictions.
