Whatever happened to the Segway Scooter? |
It was supposed to be the next big thing...and I just read that Google replaced the Segways at its Googleplex with electric scooters. All this fanfare - is it still going strong? And what was the codename of the Segway before it launched?? I believe the original codename was 'Ginger'. They are still out there with around a hundred dealers worldwide. Still selling here and there but there is still a lot of resistance partly due to pricing, perception and some problems in controlling them in adverse conditions. There also seems to be mixed reactions from different governments as to their classification and/or safety. Time will tell whether they end up being a commercial success. Either they'll go the way of the C5 or maybe we will find that they were simply way ahead of their time. They're still out there, in fact, Segway Inc. just came out with some brand new models, the i2 and x2. They're prices start at $5000 for the i2, and 5500 for the x2. Report It The people who claimed this was going to replace cars and whatnot for commuting obviously live in California. The idea that you could use the thing usefully for more than six months of the year in Buffalo or Minneapolis is ridiculous. The first person is wrong, the company that created the Segway is from New Hampshire, not California. |
