On July 4,2007, I crashed on an electric scooter, went to the hospital, etc. They said that I broke my ulna and radius. They reset it and put it in a splint. I go to the doctor to see if it is doing okay in a week. I already know that one bone is broken again. My questions are... What will happen if I get plates and screws? (function, etc) And, my left ring finger is numb, I exercise it all the time, when I move it, it like twitches. Could a nerve be damaged? Please give me all the details you can on the second question. Thank you guys and girls, peace AuTuMn....
P.S - It sux to have one arm. Hi Autumn...the numbness in the ring finger is due to damage to the ulnar nerve. It is extremely important that you make the doctor aware of the numbness in the finger b/c it will only get worse not better on its own. I have seen a 14 yr old girl who broke her ulna and radius in the same area as you have nerve damage and it was left untreated for several months and it has been a yr and she still has maybe 40% use of her hand, and she may never get full use of her hand back. Sorry if I am scaring you but I just want to make sure that you get the proper treatment. If the doctor seems like the numbness is not a big deal and does nothing about it then you should get a second opinion from a hand specialist orthopedic doctor. As far as the broken bones go, if the bones dont seem to be healing and staying in line then plate and screws may be needed. Normally bones take 6-8 wks to totally heal, but the doctor can tell on x-ray whether or not the bones are healing and if they are lined up correctly. I hope that helps...feel free to message me if you have any other questions. If you get plates and screws, then you get plates and screws. I'm not sure what aspect you're referring to..
As for the numbness it's probably severed nerves. Ask your doctor, they'll know for sure. |
