My yamaha jogr wont start off the electric start?

my bike starts fine off the kick start but there is nothing on the electric start. do you know what could cause this?

Had one of these myself a few years ago,the starter motor was siezed.Hope this helps you.

Make sure your battery is getting charged, while you ride around. (there are aftermarket voltage guages). See if the manufacturer supplied electrics are 100% functional. Check the fuses in the fuse box, though I don't expect to see a fuse in the starter circuit. You may need to replace the voltage regulator. If you are not the first owner, see if the starter wiring is factory original.

Maybe you need a new battery? How old is it? It may not be retaining a charge. That is it charges while moving but it loses its charge very quickly, thus leaving it dead. Hook up a charger to the battery, leave it on overnight, and if that does it, you may not be charging your battery while moving. Use a motorcycle charger, not a car charger. A motorcycle charger takes account of the weaker electrical system, so it doesn't damage it further. Look for a charger that puts out an amp or less, like an Acumen Acu-Max. An Acumax can charge batteries that seem to be unchargeable on other systems, And if it says you have a bad battery then you can ger rid of that battery. If you get the acumen, pay attention to the LEDS. if you connect it wrong it will warn you before it blows your circuitry. And it may, by putting out a brief pulse of HIGH current, recover a battery that was not thought to be good. Look for TWO leds lit up, the green LED is the power indicator, a second one of any color says it is trying to charge your battery.

Be aware that at idle it may not be charging at all, and that may be normal. But if your battery is NOT charged do not start the motor with it in place, because it may damage the alternator.(of course it may be damaged already.) If it is actually discharged completely, it may demand more current than your alternator is capable of putting out. (Scooter alternators are especially vulnerable to this sort of weakness. see the above comment re: the voltage regulator). Have you added anything electrical to it? Because it may be 'one thing too many', for it. Don't go far without a cell phone before you figure it out. It could strand you somewhere.

My guess is you either have a flat battery or the starter motor is broken. It's possible that the switch could be faulty.

clean the battery terminals
