Honda CM91 Cub Electrical and Battery?

I have a '68 CM91, my first step through bike. I am restoring it, but
have just looked at the electrics today. The key has a 0,1,2
positions. I can't see the coil but the rectifier and all the wires
look hooked up and color matched except two wires ( a red out of rectifier and a blueish green out of the harness) this is without the battery hooked up. My battery has a green ground with a male end and two red females for positive. I can't figure out how this hooks up. I have a new boot
and plug, but cannot get any spark with the key in 1 and 2 position and plug grounded without battery.
Will it spark with no battery? How does the wiring work with battery?

Thanks!!! Well My battery won' quite fit in the compartment. I got the two reds hooked up like you said, but the green wire had a male end on it and I couldn't find anything to plug it into. So I put one of the hoop ends on it and grounded to my frame. The head light will come on but nothing else, no spark. I also just blew my fuse. Only green wire for the negative I see it the green/yellow stripe coming from the back brake assembly

Jake,,
Yes they DO need a battery for ignition spark.

It also needs to have Clean Ignition Points to SPARK,,,
as well as having them set/adusted properly for the engine to start and run correctly.

If the Points plate has not been moved,,,
Point Gap of .015"~.016" is normally "good enough" to get it running.
Actual, correct Spark Timing involves a bit more.

Ignition Coil has 2 Wires,,,a "HOT" and a Ground

Hot is a Red Wire interrupted from Battery only by Key Switch

Batt>>>Key Switch>>>Coil

Other Coil wire is either Green or Black,,,it goes Directly to Points.
The Condenser is also "T'd" into that wire at the coil.

.........................................
I've forgotten almost Everything about them over the years

The RED wire from Rectifier is the Charging Wire.

The Battery's 2 Red wires,,,
1 is for the Red Charging Wire FROM the Rectifier.
It has NO FUSE.

The OTHER is for Batt Power INTO the Harness.
It DOES HAVE an inline fuse

The CM's should have a RED Heavy Cable directly from Battery to Starter Solenoid ,as best as I recall
...................
Negative Side of Battery is Ground,as I'm sure you know.

It will either Plug-in to a dark Green or Black wire,,or have a screw eyelet which screws directly to frame somewhere nearby.

"Bluish- Green"????
That Color is very possibly a result of "Ravages of Time"---either on ME or your Wire's color.

Heat will also Change the color,,,making that an Indication of high resistance/"dirty connections"

I dont recall such an actual color.

Honda had
DARK BLUE,, desrcibable as Bright Royal BLue,,,
and
Light "Sky Blue" or "Baby Blue"
Each was very disntinctly BLUE.

GREENS,,they had
DARK GREEN,,almost a "Pine Green"
and a LIGHT Green,,,sorta "mint green"

Any of them can also have a fine stripe "Tracer" of any color

(such as RED w/ a white stripe,,
Yellow with green stripe,
GREEN w/ white stripe,,,etc,etc)

....................
I hope that helps
