Care of sealed lead-acid battery please? |
I have an electric cycle that runs on 2 12V batteries so that I can join family bike expeditions as a disabled person. This year I bought a new lead-acid battery as the previous one just didn't seem to be delivering enough oomph! The difference is amazing & the distance I could travel is much extended - and the power output is much improved. At nearly 拢60, so that I can get a few years use from it, please can anyone tell me the best way to store & care for the battery when the bike is put away after the summer - and between bike useage - which might be once a month. The info on the battery says it has "Low self disharge of just 3% per month" and has "Excellent recovery from deep discharge" - but I don't think the idea is to just leave it for months on end. Should I keep recharging it every so often even if it's not been used? Any help, much appreciated. As these batteries are maintenance free, and sealed for safety (to avoid leakage or burns etc) To keep them at optimum performance, it's advisable to give them a booster charge every three months (if not in regular use). It is preferable to recharge them after each use, before storage. info: as batteries discharge through lack of regular recharging (eg,of loving care), the plates in the cells get coated, to the point of being insulated by buildup, and not receiving any charge. I hope this helps and you get many years trouble free expeditions. I'm assuming this is a lead-acid battery similar to those used in cars or motorcycles? |
