Turbo on a bike?

is it possible to put a turbo on a motorbike WITHOUT a carburator? with fuel injection.. and its an ELECTRIC TURBO... not a REAL one..
please no stupid answers..
thanks :)

google it electric turbo.. on ebay they have some for sale... but i dont know if it will give a bit more punch than usual.....

Most of the electric turbos you see are nothing more than an electric squriell cage fan like you'd find on a car heater. You'd be looking at a 6-8 amp draw (74-120 watts) and would be a pretty good load for some older bikes or those with smaller aternators.

The advantage would be constant boost and no turbo lag but a disadvantage could be inadequate output at high engine rpm's, noise, current draw and finding a place to mount it. If a fuel injected bike has a MAP sensor that will measure intake manifold pressure as well as vacuum and a ECM that can make the proper adjustments in fuel flow, it would work fine.

On a carburated bike you'd either have to have a blow through system by enclosing the carbs in an air tight box. Otherwise you'd need to totally seal all vents in the carbs. Either way you'd need to have a fuel pump that would exceed the maximum boost pressure by a couple of pounds at least. Otherwise, as soon as the boost pressure is higher than the fuel or gravity pressure, fuel would stop flowing into the carbs.

A draw through system wouldn't really be practical on that type of blower or carb system.

For a little extra kick once in a while, you might look at a NOX system. Not good for sustained running but definately good for stoplight to stoplight running. Just be sure to keep the NOX levels down to something reasonable and only engage it at higher engine rpms or else you'll have connecting rods sticking out of the block like a porcupine, twisted crankshaft, sunked piston tops, etc. In short, DON'T fire up the NOX at low rpms!

I doubt an electric turbocharger would work on a bike.

The electrical system on a bike is barely powerful enough to get the job done with little electricity to spare.

An electric turbocharger would draw too much amperage for your electrical system. As your bike has electronic fuel injection, if the computer receives too little electricity, it could cause some expensive damage. It could also rob power from your electric fuel pump, starving your engine of fuel, just at the time it needs it the most.

Unlike a car engine, you can not add a larger amperage alternator and battery. You are usually stuck with what you have.

I would do a lot more research before attempting a modification like this. You need to know how much amperage this turbocharger requires. You need to know how much amperage your alternator puts out. You need to know how much amperage your fuel system, lighting, ignition, and computer require.

I recommend u check out F.A.Q. on forcedairsystemtechnolgy.com website in the states, lots of questions and answers plus a good basic description of all basic forced induction principals and good practice, also the downside of n.o.s.( much more agressive burn, not good long term ) for the road, there is much more to it than bolting on a unit and forgetting about it, i've been looking at doing a turbo myself and 2 months on I'm still looking , reading, and contemplating the many and varied recomended units, garrett t-3/4 hybrid.t-25. t28. mitsubishi 16g, beginning to wish i hadn't started. turbo is relatively cheap in horsepower terms but not cheap to install. policy shop might help with insurance if you decide to take the plunge, if you're under 25 forget it, + if it's a large sports bike you'll end up with in-excess of 200bhp/and double the torque at the rear wheel, 'do you really need that kind of power on a road bike, check out youtube gsxr1000 turbo and other links for an insite of what you'll be letting yourself in for. I'm 44 and it's just on my list of things to do before I die, which might not be too far away if this turbo thing gets the better of me, Good luck

A true electric supercharger requires its own battery and a heavy duty alternator ( that can charge both batteries ) to be able to work properly. If you can find the space to mount a second battery on your bike, it may be possible. Otherwise, forget it.

i don't see why not. an ecm would just have to be tuned for the greater intake of air. but it would be possible. where are you going to get an electric turbo? they would have instructions? wouldn't they?

Save your money Cuz

A 12v hair drier would be better than those things A guy wanted me to put one on his bike Wired direct"just to ck it" it hardly turned enough to blow out a cig lighter
