The Economy is crashed, what can I do about it?

I'm in 10th grade and want to prepare for my future. Anything I can do now to prepare for the big suck that's happening to the US economy now? I want to get into engineering (robotic or electric most likely) sense I like it and I heard it's in high demand. I also thought about not spending my money on things like cable/satellite TV, $2000 plasma TVs, crap I don't need, and trying to find a job close to where I'm going to live so I can bike there instead of driving.

WHAT CAN WE DO!?

The economy hasn't crashed, and things will be turned around by the time you're done high school.

You don't have a job and you're still in school so nothing to do with the economy concerns you anyway. The media has just brainwashed and terrified you.

If anything take advantage of the situation. Save as much money as you can, get a job for the next year, and when the stock market and housing market turns around, BUY BUY BUY and you'll be rich by the time you're 30.

An electrician always makes good money. Something to think about....

Despite the hysteria the mass media is whipping up, the economy is not crashed. It's definitely slowed down, heck we may even be in a recession. But there is no reason to believe will last more than a year.

As for your future career, my advice is to get into something you love doing, and worry about the money second. As you excel because you are doing what you love, the money will come.

As for not spending your money on unnecessary things, that is an exceptionally wise thing to do. It took me until my mid-30's to learn that I didn't need a bunch of crap, or the latest car, computer or whatever. I can't tell you how much money I wasted on stuff like that. And in the end, all that crap becomes crap over the years, but my credit card debt stayed around. I still feel guilty about buying my last new car when my 10 year old car was still running fine. Thousands I didn't need to spend.

I wish I could pound this message into every young person's head. Live beneath your means. Don't buy a bunch of stuff you don't really need. Save and invest the money you don't spend, and over the years, you'll find yourself a very wealthy person.

You might try Agricultural Engineering. "Food" prices are going up, and the carbon caps may mean people growing fuels. . . . and if things really tank, you may be able to survive on a random piece of land with no economy at all.

go into computer engineering, dont do electrical.
do robotics, because those are in high demand right now, and you can make a lot of money!
trust me, like a lot of money
that is what i want to do when i grow up also, but right now, i am only in the eight grade, so i dont need to worry about that right now
and if you can get your position high enough to get long term projects the companies could send you to uk, where the economy is soooo awesome, and when you come back, you could live in beverly hills!
good luck

When it comes to the economy, there is really not too much that a single individual can do to make too large of an impact.

But, you can do stuff that will have a large impact on your personal financial situation, and that will allow you the security to ride out the troubled times. And, subsequently, the economy as a whole will be that much better.

You are already well on your way to financial security, and I can tell that by your statement that you are not going to spend money on stuff you do not need. Good move.

I have a simple two step program for becoming rich. It works for anyone regardless of education, background, or economy. It is:
Step 1: Don't spend
Step 2: Save what you do not spend.

By doing those two simple things, you will have the financial backing to surf, practically untouched, through any economic times.

Remember, an iPhone will not make you rich. Starbucks espressachinottes will not make you rich, McDonalds for lunch will not make you rich.

Best of luck.
