How do dirt bike engines work? |
I'd like to learn how to fix my dirt bike by myself...and the first step of that would be to find out what makes it tick... Most of them are 2-cycle engines, pretty easy to work on. What kind of bike first of all? While they all work on the same principles, each manufacturer has their own little design idiosyncrasies that may be unique to the brand. As others have already posted, the big difference is whether the engine is a 2-stroke or a 4-stroke. The best suggestion I can give is to first learn about engine design principles ( see link below to read up on internal combustion engine fundamentals ) and then get a service manual for your bike and learn about how it "ticks" Hi Lyndsey,, Rather than a service manual, which presumes a level of knowledge, try a Haynes or Clymer manual which are step by step with clear images and descriptions, if you can't get one for your specific bike (or you want to have general knowledge) have a look at the Haynes Basics books. what kind of Eng are you talking about a 2stroke or a 4 stroke Eng is a big deference a 4 stroke has valves a 2 stroke has not. Get yourself a service manual and study tha f?!@#$. Then tear into it and hope you have all the right tools. Happy renching! |
