What is a good 90's dirt bike 93-99?

I didn't get it to dirt bikeing till about 01'. I am looking to get a used bike and i find alot of bikes between the years 93 and 99 that go pretty cheap, how would they compare to a 01 to 05 bike.
These would be kx250 rm250 cr250 and yz250 which of these would be best also, hope you can help and thanks

Also, how much does it cost to replace a piston, i have a rm250 don't want to do it myself.

any of those you listed would be good bikes if they were maintained properly. for any given year, they are all going to be very competitive with each other. my personal preference would be in order the CR, KX, RM, YZ...

as for doing a top end (replacing piston), a piston kit (piston, ring(s), wrist pin, wrist pin bearing, gaskets) will cost around $100-125 depending on what year your RM is and the cost to install would be about 1.5-2 hours time at whatever the hourly labor rate is for a shop in your area.
