Dirt bike problem help?

i have a cr500 hard to start and wont idel any ideal what is wrong ?? i can get it started up but wont ideal on its own

Clean the carburetor.
The pilot jet's (used for the idle circuit) opening is thinner than a pin - easy to get clogged up.

Check the cylinder compression - low compression would cause those problems.

there should be an idle adjustment needle on the carb. with the bike running, turn the needle clockwise 1/4 turn at a time until it idles. (i think its clockwise, if the problem gets worse turn the other way)

Under the side cover, check the ignition pickup for correct spacing and make sure all hardware is tight. If that checks out, then remove carb bowl and check your fuel jets, that small hole will clog easily, especially if the bike has been siting for a while,put in fresh gas, new spark plug, and give it a shot.
I don't recommend ether(starting fluid) to start a motorcycle, but if the bike has been sitting for several years sometimes it helps
