What's safer = ATV's or Dirt Bike?

My dad's a safety freak.

This might seem like a stupid question, but I don't want to get mauled by a 600 pound object.

atvs, simple physics, 4 wheels...

ATV

ATVs... I mean it is a four wheeled vehicle almost... The dirt bike can easily flip or tipped and all that great stuff... So I would go with an ATV

Be careful, first of all neither are "safe" I ride both, sell both, love both, but they are risk activities.
ATV's generally are more prone to injuries because of the "4 wheels equals safe" mentality. You KNOW your dirtbike can fall over but feel "safe" on 4 wheels. Secondly, they are harder to avoid if they they do flip. Bikes are easier to launch away from when things get hairy.
Hope this helps

It's all in the rider and rider's experience. They ban three wheelers, but it was probably the people riding stupid that got hurt on them. Some people have started off on a Dirt Bike and when they switched to a Quad, they where whipping the quad around like nothing because riding a Dirt Bike is more work depending on where you ride.

Listen, i ride both, and let me tell you that i've seen people who i thought would be good quad riders be absolutely horrible, and vice versa. My advice to you would be to take a safety course first, put your fathers worries to ease, and then you can get what you want. Quads are a lot of fun, but eventually you'll want a dirt bike, it is just how it works. OR, split the money you were going to spend on a new one, and get one of each, that way you AND your dad can go riding together.
