What's a good first dirt bike? |
I've been a terrific fan of motocross and offroad racing/riding since I was 10 yrs old, I am now 40 and I've never owned or riden a bike (I rode a mini bike a few times, the kind with a lawnmower engine) my question is, what is a good starter bike, a 125 or do you think I should start out smaller like an 85 or 65 or maybe even a pit bike like sikk or pitsterpro? p.s. I'm 6' 0" and 170 lbs. thanks for your answer. Go to a cycle sales and sit on the bikes and talk to the pros--buy one you feel comfortable on and ask about pros and cons. My 5 year old grandson has a Yamaha 50 with training wheels!! I think you should try a 4 stroke dirtbike instead of a 2 stroke because you can baby it more when getting used to it, it doesn't have the crazy acceleration like you need to use in a 2 stroke to keep from fouling the pistons. As far as size you can go as big as a 250 with a 4 stroke because as I said you can baby it, and you wont get bored of it when you advance as fast. Yamaha YZ 125 , as tall as you are it will fit you you, they have more power than you will most likely ever use, most of the pros and super x riders run 125 or 250's ,stick with the smaller ones they can hurt you plenty, my 19 year old son rides a 125 and it performs plenty good for him, he clears 90 ft table tops on it a 125 is probably a good choice ive been riding since i was 5 and that is what i still like to ride just be carefil and have fun but i started on a km 100 mech riding for 29 years i would suggest a yamaha ttr-230. these are excellent starter bikes, and most i believe come with electric start. poser is good, and suspension is forgiving... check them out at http://www.yamaha-motor.com/sport/produc... the honda xr100r is a really good bike cause i got on mine and a few hours later you will be trying to pull wheelies and wanting to race someone you will thing you are a pro but a begginer. |
