Dirt bike gears? |
how do you know what gear you are in? where are all the gears locations? do you just pull up on the gear shifter to go up in gears and like wise to go down? how to shift in neutral? specifically for a honda cr250 thanks look i can tell you don't have a lot of experience here. so i can help. when you sit down on the bike step 1 pull in the clutch lever and hold it step 2 push the shift lever down repeatedly till it stops making a clicking noise (that's first gear) step 3 slowly release the clutch lever till the bike starts to roll a Little give it gas (slowly) then continue to release clutch till its fully release. step 4 to switch to second gear and higher gears just roll off the gas, pull in the clutch lever , pull up on the shift lever then repeat step 3 to find neutral pull in clutch lever, push down on shift lever till clicking stops pull up on shift lever half way that should be neutral now as far as knowing what gear your in you just have to keep track in your head. after a while you will know what gear by the sound of the engine and the speed your going. it just becomes second nature gear location 6 5 4 3 2 n 1 if you have 6 gears if you have less it will still be in the same order sometimes on some bike there is a indicator down by the shift lever down shift you as a new rider dont realy need to down shift. just pull in the clutch lever and hold it and use your brakes. a 60/40 split that means 60% form the front brake and 40% for the rear brake. when you get better then you can down shift (the same way you up shift just backwards) and you can do defferant brake percentage this is more toward a advance rider or for racing hope this helps . good luck! starting in neutral. click down for first, click up for 2nd, click up for 3rd, click up for 4th, click up for 5th... downshifting from 5th, just click down once to drop down one gear, all the way down to 1st. then to get back to neutral, click 1/2 up ... neutral is between 1st & 2nd and sometimes requires playing with it to click in. the common phrase is 1 down 5 up (click down once and then click up 5 times for the different gears)... hope that helps! Some bigger road bikes actually have a gear indicator light but most expereienced bikers laugh at that. You dont need one, by the time you have ridden a week or two you will know what gear you are in and the gear indicators are just extra cost and somethign more to break down. The pattern you already know, as stated above, from nuetral one down, 5 (or 6) up. |
