Can a dirt bike be started witout a magneto? |
Can a dirt bike be started witout a magneto? No not really. It's got to have Something to provide the Ignition Spark. Most all dirt bikes depend on their magneto for both the Electrical Energy to fire their Spark Plug,,and for the control over the Timing of that spark. It's NOT typical for dirt bikes to have a Battery Powered ignition system. Thats mostly street bikes. But a Battery Powered Ignition will run without a generator/alternator/magneto. Years ago it was a somewhat common Modification to REMOVE a magneto,,, and install a Battery powered Ignition. But that was done for very limited Use,and only certain applications. Now days it's easy to find Light Weight Mags,, Internal Rotor,,,"No rotor weight" ignitions,etc,etc ........................ So in PUREST sense,,,,it's a Yes & No answer In the General Sense,,,NO. It depends on the mag to run,,and has no "back-up" or alternative system to do the mag's critical job. In absolute terms of what's possible,,,, IF you replace the Mag with some other means to produce and time the Ignition Spark,,, Yeah |
