How fast would a 250cc dirt bike go? how fast could you make it go? Please don't screw around with the engine!! So many kids do that and then wonder why it goes kaboom three months later. You can expect a modern 250cc trailie to manage 80mph; if you want more power, take it to a reputable professional mechanic and have it de-restricted, but while that will give you more power it will not really make the bike's top speed any higher because they just aren't stable or comfortable at high speeds. Trail bikes are extremely quick and agile but they are not meant for high-speeds, which I think makes them safer than road-sports bikes because you can tear around pulling all kinds of silly stunts off-road and get away with maybe a broken arm or leg when it all goes wrong. When people fall off on tarmac at 150mph they die - or worse. peice of cake, the other guy is right, a 250 stock will hit about 80-85. if you want more power to get that speed you will need an exhuast system. easy to find but can be expensive. around 350 for a combo kit, preferably procircuit and fmf. then the reed cage. power reeds in a bike make the world of difference between the throttle response and the holeshot in a race. now to make your cart faster. the 250 is well built engine around 45hp and hauls ***. if you want to reach 100+ then countershaft sprocket(one on the engine) will need to be around 15 teeth. the smaller the more power and bigger the more speed. the rear sprocket it a little different, teh smaller the faster and the bigger the more power. so you would look for somthing around 45 teeth. but this is yours to tinker with, but remmber to much speed on the sprockets will have a dramatic change in your acceleration. have fun. and may i suggest the hondacr250 engine or the yamaha yz250. widely used in carts Ditch the "add on" idea and go with a tested engine. You can top speeds in excess of 110 mph with the Yamaha engine set-up and proper gearing. With a smaller engine :) You should have asked this question in referance to "go-cart" race speeds LOL. Nothing like doing 100 mph 2 inches off the ground.....180 mph on the interstate in a car or on a bike can't even touch that feeling :) Racin go carts :) My 250cc has been over 80. |
