I want to buy a used dirt bike. I am a single mother of four and one wants one for Xmas. It can be used.? |
But I want it to be decent working condition. Any suggestions or anyone w/ any for sale. Please let me know. He's 12 BTW. I would suggest a Honda CRF50. It's a 4 stroke so it'll be ultra reliable and require less maintenance than a 2 stroke. CRF 50's are pretty much bullet/kid proof. They are pretty small, but adults can and do ride them all the time. I believe they're rated for up to 180#, but you can get stronger springs and even increase that. The benefit of it being small is you're other kids will be able to ride it as well, and it has an automatic clutch so it'll be real easy to learn on. You could try your local swap meet or ebay. Ebay is a good start. Compare apples to apples though. It at least helps you to get a close true price on an item. You might try your local motorcycle shops, sometimes they have listings of used bikes that their customers don't need anymore as they bought new ones. You should also be considering that he will need some fairly expensive protective equipment. A helmet, chest protector, elbow and knee pads and some good boots are going to be needed. Good luck with the purchase and ride safe. You're best bet is to buy one from a motorcycle dealership that sells used motorcycles (they take in bikes as trade-ins for new buyers). They will cost more than buying from private party's through newspaper ads. But they are fully checked out and tuned before they sell them. In some cases they will give you some kind of warranty. The additional costs outweigh the headaches. before you buy the dirt bike, I need to ask some questions, 1st can you afford the bike? the child needs safety gear thats probably 3 to 500 depending on equipment. last ,Do you have a way of transporting your son and his bike to a safe location, so he can ride? I know from previous experience, that he will ride it on the street and its not safe to do that, with knobby tires. and last but not least, its not If he gets in to an accident, but WHEN he gets into one bike rider for 40 yrs |
