I'm a new rider and need a dirt bike, best one for me? |
I'm 5"9 and 145 and i'll be trail riding in the woods and mud. I ride a Yamaha TTR250 4 stroke , Im the same height as you and find this bike takes me through anything , very easy to ride and a good height for me as well, shop around , I bought a 2nd hand bike that has been well looked after, have dropped it many a time and replaced a few indicators and levers but thats off roading for you ,most of all enjoy !!! the best one for you is the one you have ......between your legs...... how much do you want to spend.... they start at $200 for an old rat bike to $50,000 for a factory racer... try a cheap light one because u dont want a heavy one incase u cant pick it up and a cheap one so if u break it because ur a new driver u dont loose alot The best beginner trail bikes are the honda XR models. The XR250R has been around for a long time, and has proven it's durability. They are also easy to ride. The XR400R is also extremely durable. I would recommend the 250 for a newbie. They hold their value really well, so if you want to upgrade in a year or two you won't lose much money on the bike. yamaha 250 r 4 stroke but go easy it real fast bike but a good learner bike that you shoudnt out grow for awhile and wont have much maint.......... besides oil changes SCHWINN for trail riding in the woods, you will be better off with a torquey 4 stroke, something like the Honda XR200 or 250 or even the CRF230 (with elec start). these are all great off road bikes and very dependable for long life with great resale value. another idea is the Kawasaki KDX 200 or 220 in the 2 stroke area which is also torquey like the 4 strokes mentioned above plus a bit more light weight and better suspension & brakes... if any of these are too tall for you, you can modify by adding lowering links to the rear suspension and then slide the fork tubes up in the triple clamp to level the bike back out. my daughter is 5'6" and about 130-135 lbs. I bought her a CRF230 and it fits her very well without any modifications to suspension. |
