What is the best 04-05 250 four-stroke dirt bike? |
Please support your answer with fact. The Honda CRF-250F or Yamaha YZF 250 are pretty much top of the line bikes as well as being neck and neck in comparison. Either bike would be good for you. I would check out Motocross Action, Racer X, or Transworld MX for comprehensive track tests for the years you are interested in. If you are not interested in a full race 250 4 stroke, then the less stressed Honda XR-400 or 650 might better suit you for play riding in the desert. These bike require much less maintenance as the motors are less stressed. The top Baja 1000 racers such as Steve Hengeveld race XR-650's, as the CRF-450's cant take the abuse, heat or stress that a long race like the Baja 1000 dishes out. The 250 and 450 4- strokes are good for GP and MX racing but less suitable for long distance desert racing. My son finished top 10 in the 250 Pro class in this years Adelanto GP on his CRF250F. When buying a used 4 stroke racing bike such as the YZF or CRF, bear in mind the manufacturers recommend servicing the top ends every 10 hours of riding time, so service records, and reciepts will be more important when buying a used 4 stroke as opposed to a 2 stroke. What type of riding are you doing? How often do you want to service the bike? How skilled are you? What is your height/weight? The 'best' bike depends on the rider's size, skill level, where you ride, and many other factors. There is no absolute 'best' bike for everyone (that's why there's so many models). Honda me If you want the motocross model I would have to say the CRF250R with the Yamaha a close second. The reason I say this is because the 04-05 CRF has more low end torque than any of the other 250F MX bikes. It is just an incredible engine that works great in every situation. In 06 they moved the power up higher in the RPM range. From what I'm hearing though you might want to consider a CRF250X woods model. This bike is awesome in the woods and does very good on jumps as well. Another plus to the X model is that it would most likely not have been run as hard as the MX model. You should be able to find a nice 05 for under 4K. If you buy the R model try to get it from someone that is not a racer and preferably a senior rider. If you don't rev the crap out of those bikes they last very well. If you buy one from an 18 year old A class racer you can bet it has seen better days. Yamaha I think is the best. I have a RM 250 but I like 2 strokes I don't want to have to rebuild the top every 15 to 20 hrs to keep the power up. I hate the color yellow but my Suzuki is a good bike if you want a good dirt bike for track use dont get a 110cc or in other words a pit bike. honda and suzuki make very good bikes these are dear but you will get everything out of them and they last for ages not having to replace very much. Really it depends if you want a second hand one or brand new. Four strokes last much longer they will start up better on a cold day |
