When your buy a silencer for a 2 srtroke dirt bike do you have to re jet it?

Ok i just bought a 2006 yz 125 and i want to put a silencer and a pipe on it i also want to know if i need to change any thing internally like the jetting? I also want to know if these mods make a difference in performance. Again please just let me know what i have to do to properly install these parts and how to get the correct performance out of them.(what do i have to change to install these things and get the correct outcome)

i think it would run but it would be better if you did rejet.. sometime and im sure it will run better than before... really should look at a book on it will be a little hard to tell ya how and what to do with carb
Most bikes from the factory are jetted lean. A silencer would presumably create more back pressure and 'richen' things up, but the performance may suffer.

Try the silencer out, and after a hour, look at the plugs - if it's black and sooty, replace it with a hotter plug. If they're still gets dirty, either shorten the carb slide needle up a notch, or go up a size or two on the jets. If there's no evidence of overheating, you're probably fine as is.
it all depends on what pipe and silencer combo you are going to buy. plus what elevation and temperature you will be running at.

most of the time when you put on an aftermarket expansion chamber you will run leaner. some after market silencers will cause you to run richer, and some leaner.

like i said it depends on the combo.

jetting is very important on 2strokes both for performance and engine durability.

you should research about jetting and then go out for a day with about 10 new plugs, some main jets, and pilot jets. and jet your bike.

but, if you don't want to mess around with it i recommend buying "FMF" they somtimes come with the jets and they always have baseline jetting to get started from.
2 stroke... you cannot just put a silencer on a 2 stroke motor..

2 stroke exaughst systems work different to 4 stroke

expansion chambers are designed to create sonic pulses within the pipe that cause scavenging benefits as the ports closes..

if you buy a pipe designed for the bike it will come with recomendations on jetting & settings for the carbies.. you may want to look at putting in some better reeds as well. ( no point in half doing the job)

but it depends on how technical you want to get.. 2 stroke racers rejet the carbies to suit the atmospheric conditions the bike will be running in.. ( not sure you want to be rejetting the carbies everytime the weather changes)

just because the bike sounds better dosnt mean its running better.. you have to put it on the dyno to check the output your getting..

so if your not racing for a living...leave it standard or buy kit that gives you chambers & reeds...
