Do i need a good battery to have spark on my dirt bike? |
i have a 1969 honda trail 70....do i need a good battery to get a spark? That would be an SL70 ?? No , Battery Not required , Was only there to run Lights & Horn Spark is Via a Magneto in the Engine Case . Source(s): Owned one , It ran without a Battery just fine no... the spark comes from the pickup coil and is controlled by the stator assembly..... long as you can spin the engine over (kickstart or push) fast enough you would not even have to have a battery it depends. does it have a battery or a magnito? the magnito or battery will create spark. so if the battery is dead there is no spark Yes. You do need a good battery to have spark on a 1969 Honda trail 70. Honda's didn't have CDI ignition back in 1969. It has what is called a "battery ignition". The battery charges the coil. When the points open, the circuit is broken The charge in the coil is sent to the spark plug and jumps across the spark plug gap. guardrailjim, you dont know what your talking about. Its probably well before your time. It has a flywheel magneto with contact points. (PMS) Points are a pain to set as they are inside flywheel and there is only a small 'window' to set them. System was used by Honda and others from 1950's until CDI came into use (around mid/late1980's), although some manufacturers had used CDI/TPI in the 1970's |
