NEW TO DIRT BIKES CAN SOMEONE GIVE ME BASIC INFO TO KNOW thanks?

I am New and my son is starting dirt biking He is 12 .

What is the Basic Info for Birt Bikes

like what is cc and how to understand how cc works and stuff like that

And maybe what kind of bike my son should start out with he is:

I'll throw a few things out here and feel free to email me with specific questions as well. I have been riding dirt bikes for many years but just started my nephew out last year at 10 years old, so I'm kind of in the same boat with you. CC is cubic centimeters, which is just the displacement of the engine. More cc's doesn't always mean more power or a physically larger bike. An 85 motocross bike, like the CR 85 for instance, is more powerful than the Honda CRF100 and is larger (taller) than the 100 because the 85 has longer travel suspension. I wouldn't recommend starting him on a motocross bike even if he plans to ride mainly on a motocross track. At his height he should fit on a Honda CRF100, but if that is too tall get the CRF80. These are very dependable bikes so don't be afraid to buy a used one. Some of the older models are called XR instead of CRF but are the same bike basically. Another important factor is protection. Riding gear can get a little expensive but is worth the investment. Make sure he has the following before riding; MX boots or work boots that come above the ankles, shin/knee guards, gloves, chest protector, helmet and goggles.

Buy a used bike to start with, everyone ALWAYS outgrows their first bike.

Do what my dad tells me every time we ride, to this day, (I have been riding for over 20 years), "GO SLOW over what you don't know." - Racing is for racers, you may get thre some day, but just enjoy riding for the sake of riding. The more your ride, the more fun it is and the better you get.
