Help on dirt bikes? |
my son really would like a dirt bike he is 14 are they dangerous & are they hard to drive and what one is a good one for him no matter how safe you think you are Source(s): http://www.kerryracing.com/index2.htm... If he has never ridden start off with a nice, mellow trail bike like a Honda CRF150 or a Yamaha TT-R. These are ideal beginner bikes and are much easier to learn on as opposed to a full blown motocross bike. Maybe try to find a nice used one for starters and move up as skill and size dictate. It may also be a good idea to go to a dealer so he can sit on the bikes to see which ones fit his size. Dirtbikes themselves are no more dangerous than a bicycle..it is the actions and reactions of the rider that determine the danger factor. If you decide to get a bike make sure you get ALL of the proper safety gear including helmet, goggles, gloves, jersey, pants, shin gaurds, boots etc etc. They are dangerous, but that's why some of us do it. It would be as dangerous as a bicylce, if bicyles went that fast. You just have to know your son - does he like danger? If he wants a bike he probably got that idea seeing freestyle, so I'm guessing he likes danger. Danger can be good - it separtes men from boys. I would start with a TTR 125 or a KLR 125. They beat the CRF 150 in that they have electric start, and a DRZ 125 is just a KLR 125 without electric start. The can be difficult to learn to start and the clutch takes some people some time to adjust to but he'll get there. They're easier to balance than a bike since the pedals don't move. Some people have luck with the Chinese bikes and some don't. I would not get one because they are really hard to sell, and cost as much as a used good bike like I mentioned above. there is nothing that isnt dangerous in this world. I have been riding since I was 6 years old. If you get him a bike for off road use. teach him to ride responsibly, this means to wear ALL of the protective clothing, including a helmet 100% of the time. Is he going to crash? Yes is he going to get scraped up? Yes is he going to get hurt real bed? It all depends on his ability to ride and how his gear protects. since he is 14, he will try to learn how to do diferent thing rather quickly, which means he will most likely crash alot. it is a fun sport, and I hope he will enjoy it as well. but here is an idea, why dont you get a bike too. this way you both can learn how to ride together, and this way he and you always have someont to ride with, plus this could be a great oppertunity to do some father-son bonding..... as far as what kind to get him, look for something reliable. do not run out and buy one of those cheap chinese bikes at pep boys, just because they are inexpensive, remember, you get what you pay for. look at the japanese brands like honda or yamaha. they have a mass variety of race bikes, trail bikes, anll a lot of bike inbetween. get him something he can learn on, but also will be able to test his ability on as well. get him a bike that he feels comfortable on as well. if you get him a bike that is too big, or too small, this could result in him crashing, or not able to enjoy the sport as much. well I am the same age and I have been ridding since I was 7. I have been playing soccer for 10 years and have had more injuries from soccer than from ridding. They can be dangerous though. But they are a great thing, in my opinon. Make sure he has all the protective gear to insure his safety. Helmet, riding pants, jersey, gloves, boots, chest protector, & goggles. If he is safe on the bike he should be ok. Of course he will fall, get some cuts and bruises. I recommend starting him out on a four stroke and on a bike without a clutch, but because of his age he most likely will not fit on a bike without a clutch. I would recommend the kawasaki klx 125. It is a great bike for starers but they discontinued it. If you would find one for sale that would be great. http://www.kawasaki.com/products/subcate... The yamaha ttr 125 is also a great bike.It also has an electric start which he will defiantly like. http://www.yamaha-motor.com/sport/produc... GOOD LUCK! |
