Im new to dirt bikes...really new...?

I just got a used kawasaki dirt bike, and i have no clue how to ride it. It needs some fixing first, but i want to be prepared on how to ride it by the time it's fixed. I really wanted to know how to change gear, and what are the best links to view videos on better control..help?

its so hard to explain on here..... are you in sydney? i need a riding buddy. hahah

i think first thing is.... when starting to take of, DO NOT let the clutch out heaps fast, you will end up of the back of the bike. First hold the cluctch in, use ur left foot to click down on the gear lever. only add alittle throttle and slowly wind it up and let the clutch slowly out at the same time. after you get that down packed and comfy with it, you will have to be going at a decent speed to change into 2nd and pull the cluch in and click ur left foot UNDER the gear lever..

add me to msn if you like or email me... samantha.982@hotmail.com Source(s): been riding for like 17 years, i started when i was 6/5 and im 24

The most important thing I can think to offer is this:

When you grab the (twist) throttle, your whole wrist & arm should be level with the ground while your throttle(engine) is still at idle.

Here's why:
At some point, you are going to slide off of the back of the bike. As you slide off, your arm ends up roughly level to the ground. If this does not put your engine into an idling state, your bike will accelerate away from you, leaving your butt on the ground wondering what happened.

Thus, when you are actually 'motoring around' on your cycle, your wrist should be a bit lower than your hand, handlebars, and the rest of your arm.

And one other thing, that is real hard to learn when you are new...don't go too slow. Going too slow will often cause you to stall or otherwise crash.

Good luck.
hopfully you know people you are going to ride with never ride alone and always wear your safty gear.someone you will be riding with is probably a good rider have them give you some basic training before you ride do not shift out of first gear till you feel comfortable on the bike once you get going just practice and you will get good - have fun
