Is an R1 a good bike for a beginner 17 year old to start with?

my boyfriend is 17 about 6'4" and 220 and is wanting a bullet bike badly, he has his mind set on a Yamaha yzf R1, and wants nothing less, he had ridden atv's and dirt bikes very little previous to this, but wants that to be his first bike....i tell him he needs to start smaller but what do i know. help me is this a good bike for him to start with or is he gonna kill himself?

It would be better to start smaller and work up to the R1 that way he had a goal.
He's definitely gonna kill himself.
+1 for killing himself . even an R6 maybe over kill for beginner . Start looking for a new man now .
Start looking for a new boyfriend, he will be dead or in a wheelchair soon.
Have ridden bikes all my life.
Good way to die. The R1 is way to much bike for a begining street rider. Take alot of pictures before he buys it, have something to remember him by.
I know in Florida, he can't get a motorcycle license until he's 18.
Ditto to all of the above. It would be foolhardy to have an R1 as a starter bike; for anyone at any age, no matter what size they are...
