Is a 1989 kawasaki ninja 750 a good bike to start off riding? |
Its my first crouch rocket but I have rode dirt bikes since i was in diapers. Also what should I do differently on this bike then I would on a dirt bike?? PLZ HELP!! allow more time to stop...that bike is very quick Id get something a bit less less powerful with an upright riding position, like a Buell Blast or Honda Rebel. Older bikes include the Kawasaki GPZ550 (a sweet ride) and the Suzuki GS series. All will do just fine on the highway and are inexpensive to buy and insure. A 750 isn't a bad bike to start out with. Given it's an 89 it will be more forgiving than a newer 750 would be. All in all riding is riding, but dirt is a different world. Coming from that just remember that sliding a tire on a street isn't quite as forgiving. If the rear breaks loose and suddenly finds grip again - off you go. There's more hazards on the street. Ride like you are invisible and always be prepared that somebody is going to pull out in front of you. Get used to the brake feel, and remember that braking plus swerving isn't a good thing. Slow down and then swerve. Braking takes away from traction, and when you combine both while the bike is leaning can cause for a spill. And please don't call them crotch rockets - they're sport bikes ;) If you have a lot of experience on dirt bikes, then the 750 should be fine. In my experience, anybody who can handle a 250cc two stroke on soft dirt can handle almost any bike on pavement. As with any new bike, you want to take it easy for a few weeks to get comfortable with how everything works. Make sure you learn the powerband and the stability before you get too crazy. You want to also get familiar with maintaining your bike. Watch out for cars! That's the first thing you do differently. Secondly just take your time to get to know the bike. And if you're gonna ride it fast don't do it in traffic or side streets and don't run from the cops if they see you speeding. The dirt riding has made you a better rider than the average street rider. Share your knowledge and keep the shiny side up. That's different from dirt riding ain't it? I wouldn't try to jump it like a dirt bike. I started off on a z1 900. Whatever bike you choose, start off on a bike that you want and take your time there is no point in starting off on a little bike just to be disappointed a few months later when you have goten used to it later safety is more important than size. make sure whatever you buy is safe. |
