I want to start dirtbiking, but i dont know what bike to choose? |
I am 15 and 5 11 i am not sure what kinda dirt bike i want i have a spending limit of 3-4 thousand. but my freind talked me out of a 4 stroke what kinda bike do i get, any suggestions will help dont let your friend talk you out of a four stroke if its what you need a 2 stroke will not idle...well it will but you will foul plugs left and right.and for someone with no experience on dirtbikes, 4 strokes are a good place to start (and probably safer). i think 4 strokes are easier to work on aswell. if you are trail riding (lots of turning, slowing down then speeding up, climbing over rocks and sticks) then you DONT want a 2 stroke. if you are just going to be riding on big open tracks with big jumps then 2 is for you. besides all that - you can pretty much find any dirtbike you want used for a good price. not all used dirtbikes are worn ragged and completely trashed. pick up your local cycle trader and newspaper and check out what people are selling check out the dealer sites and get and idea of what youd like (or think youd like). i know that yamaha's arent TOO expensive from what i saw on the site when i was looking for a dirtbike...and a new crf150r (4 stroke) costs about 5 grand (thats what we looked at first) but thats about all i can tell you when it comes to prices http://www.yamaha-motor.com/sport/produc... http://powersports.honda.com/motorcycles... http://www.suzukicycles.com/products/cat... http://kawasaki.com/home/home.aspx... check out those sites. every dealership we went too that had all different types said that best brand is all personal preference...which may be true but for me id say honda or kawasaki (or yamaha...i have a ttr125 but its just a trail bike...i love it and its damn near invencible) ive never really heard anything too great about suzuki except they are light...and ofcourse travis pastrana and ricky carmicheal ride them :) haha and if you are 15 and 5'11 then look at 250s for 4 strokes and the 125s for 2 strokes. the best thing you can do though is sit on all sizes, makes, and models to find which one feels best for you hope this helped good luck Source(s): me kawasaki or honda honda straight out! yz 125, but you might rethink the idea of a 4 stroke. The Yamaha 125 4 stroke would probably work better for you age, and your inexperience. 125cc . . . all the power you want I have to admit I'm in favor of 2-strokers. I would suggest the Honda CR250 or the Kawasaki KX250F - you'll tear up the track on either of them. |
