My fiance wants to buy us dirt bikes...?

He has ridden before, I never have, but he's never owned a bike. What would be some good choices for us and showed I get lessons *yes i'm a little nervous lol*? I'm about 5'8 135lbs and he's 5'10 165 lbs if that makes a difference.. Thanks!

Go down to your Yamaha dealer and make a deal on a pair of ttr's Get a 250 for him and a 230 for you. Now your all set for 10 yrs. of trouble free trail riding and if you change your mind you can get really good resale.

Get the bikes first and then worry about lessons. There's a book:

Pro Motocross and Off-Road Motorcycle Riding Techniques, New Ed.(CyclePro) (Paperback)

Very good reading and interesting. Start with the book and maybe you'll decide you can pick more up from your riding buddies than a class. Classes are good but not readily available everywhere. Maybe get one when you can but don't waste time waiting when you could be riding.

Happy Trails !
I have watched 10 year olds play on dirt bikes it has nothing to do with how tall you are or how much you weigh.
Take some lessons have fun. When your at the dealer tell them you are both novices, they will give you the smaller type bikes to begin on. you just don't start with something for a professional.
For you I would recommend the XR100. It is cheap low powered and fun. You can learn the basic skills on it before you set out to hit the triples.

As for lessons there are not alot of choices. You could take the MSF course to learn basic skills like the clutch but everything is different on dirt.

After you get used to tooling around on that you can move up to a faster bike. I would recommend staying with 4-strokes.

As for hime I would recommend a cr125 or crf250
first of all dont be nervous im 14
and a girl i ride all the time my body type is the same is yours but im 5'81/2 size doesnt really matter its wat you can handle if its your first time start off with a 80 and only by the brand yamaha its the BEST! for him maybe a 125 maybe it just depends wat you can handle go to a shop they will help you out alot fyi i ride a 250 its pretty sick but thats not till you know how to ride good luck bro
