2 stroke vs. 4 stroke dirt bikes.? |
I know that four stroke motocross bikes only recently became more popular than two strokes. When did they become better? And is a older 2 stroke better than an older 4 stroke? My Dad swears by the 2-stroke bikes. He has a four stroke Suzuki and says the thing sucks for wheelies. He says that 2=strokes deliver a lot more power. The reason that 4-strokes are becoming more popular are emission laws - not because they are better bikes. I did meet a guy who is impressed by what they have been able to do with the 4-strokes though - they are still heavier than a 2 though. 2 strokes are noisy, low mpg, fall apart sooner, suck a lot of oil..but are faster, simpler to fix...4 strokes weigh more,,are quieter, last longer cost more....used,,buy 4 stroke if u can afford it. 2 strokes generally are faster than 4 strokes because every stroke is a power stroke. They run hotter. They require less maintenance, no valves, less moving internals. They have a shorter life expectancy, are less costly, lighter, noisier and smokey. Air cooled 2 strokes often succumb to heat and seize their pistons. The EPA and most riders prefer 4 strokes. 40 years in the business 2 stroke bikes have more speed than 4 stroke but the for stroke has more power had bikes all my life do you want to trail ride or go fast ? A 2 stroke will be fatser but is nosier. It is getting harder to take a 2 stroke out and ride anywhere other than a track or private land out in the country. A 4 stroke would be better for trail riding. They last longer and aren't as load, and easier to register. |
