What size dirtbike??

my little sis wants to buy a dirt bike. she is about 5'2" and 110 lbs. she has never ridden before but wants to start... what size and what kind of bike should she get??? please help!!!

If you look around you should be able to find a used Honda XR 100 for cheap. Honda made a bunch of these biikes. They're solid, reliable machines that will do everything your sister will need to do and not have so much power that she'll get shot into a tree her first time out. Tons of parts on the aftermarket too so if it needs something you won't have to spend an arm and a leg for repairs.

And the best part is if she takes good care of the bike she'll be able to sell it to some other new rider for as much money as she paid for it!

Tell her to go take a riding class. Ask around at your local bike shops and you might be able to find someone teaching a dirt bike class for new riders.
125s are pipey, but considering her size, that's what I'd get for her. As the brand, let's be frank. They're all good. Try to get a used one from a guy who races regularly - about a two year old model. It's the best deal going.
Your sister is a smaller girl, and very petite by the sound of it. But that's ok, someday she might outride all of you.... let's get her started.

I think for her size, weight, and lack of experience riding a bike, we need something that she can fit on, has plenty of power, but not too much power, plenty of good suspension, but is lightweight so she can handle the bike well.

The manufacturer is a personal preference, but here are a few bikes I'd recommend for her. All are great motocross bikes.

Yamaha YZ80
Suzuki RM80
Kawasaki KX80
Honda CR80

All of these bikes have great suspensions, good power, lightweight, easy maintenance, and you can race any one of these bikes in competition if need be. They're all great bikes, it's a matter of choice for your sister.

Best wishes!
no 2 strokes that for sure ...start her on a 100 and put throttle stop on it and as she learns lean out the throttle stop so she can slowly gets used to the power.
I'd agree with MUM that 2 strokes aren't for beginners. At 5'2" she's tall enuff for good size dirtster. The ol Honda XR 100(now called CRF),Yamaha's TTR 125, Yamee has sold alot of these.Look for a deal on a late model 1 owner in yer local papers.Have a buddy with some dirtster knowledge do all the 'checking it over' & dickerin on the price. Some folks buy a new bike & then find out they don't like the sport.Good Luck
I agree with mum and RP a 2 stroke is just to much for someone that has never road before. I have been riding for 8 years and sometimes my KTM 125 still surprises me with its power. so a 4 stroke form 100-200 would be a good start.(doesn't matter on the brand). they are all good and reliable.

hope this helps you can email me if you have any more questions.
