Do I have add? |
I am a 13 year old boy and I was wondering if these symptoms conclude add or not: I start listning in class and i try to pay attencion but by about 10 or 15 minutes im staring at the wall and thinking about snowboarding, girls, ect. I have not read a book in about two years (mabey one or two) not because i dont like to read but because in the middle of random pages i begin thinking about when class is going to end, whether or not i should buy a dirt bike. The worst problem is falling asleep. Before i actually fall asleep i lay in my bed for about an hour with my mind racing. I try to go to bed but within 3 minutes im thinking of anything again. Another problem that may or may not be a sighn of add is my fidgiting. In class i cannot stop fidgiting and i am very wrestless with my legs and feet. When i am givin a hard task i tend to procrastinate and wait foer the exact last moment. Every class that includes memorizing i do poorly in Thanks for your help Tim I am a psychologist and I am NOT making a diagnosis based on what you are telling me here. However, it does sound like you might have some symptoms of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, especially if you find it hard to pay attention and fidget. The reason why you should see a qualified psychologist (or other doctor) is because your symptoms might also be something else, and they can ask you the right questions to figure it out. You should talk to your parents and/or school counselor to help you with this. You might also want to look this up online. Go to www.WebMD.com and look up ADHD and read the description to see if it sounds like you. This is just so you can find out more information about it. It is very good that you are asking questions about this, keep up the good work. ADD is notoriously hard to diagnose. Before you get yourself all worked up with worrying, you should definately tell a parent about your concerns and take a visit to a doctor, who will recommend you to a specialist. Take care of yourself! I have the same exact symptoms but I dont have ADD I went to the doc and he said no I dont Sounds like it to me..are you sure your not my brother tim? lol You seem like a VERY smart 13 year old to have even picked up on the fact that you may have a problem is outstanding. before you meet with your doctor you should speak to your teachers or a councilor on ways to work with this problem you seem to be having, you may be a little more advanced then you feel right now and are simply bored. the thinking about girls and snowboarding isn't going to go away your a boy thats pretty much going to be the progressions of your thoughts for the next 50-70 years so go with it. if your teachers cant help You should meet with your physician and explain to him/her whats been going on. and to your question about your dirt bike its yes always yes. DO NOT LISTEN TO THE OTHERS! I am 30 years old and I got involved with psychiatrists when I was 18. They took away my drivers licence and diagnosed me with all kinds of BS! They wanted to make me take all kinds of pills that made me gain fifty pounds and made my hair fall out. Sounds to me like you are COMPLETELY NORMAL! -School is BORING! Snowboarding is what we all would rather be doing. Get away from the idea of ADD or ADHD. DO NOT SEE A PSYCHIATRIST!!! Trust me.... they WILL ruin your life!!!! http://antipsychiatry.org YOU ARE NORMAL! School is hard. PLEASE LISTEN TO ME! If you are tagged with ADD it will follow you for the rest of your life. Try telling a girl you have ADD.... she'll be out the door. Be young.... act wild.... have fun.... keep daydreaming. -Just try to force yourself to study more too. As hard as it is. http://www.amazon.com/myth-d-d-child-beh... You may well have one of the various kinds. See http://www.add101.com/diagnosis.htm... It should give you some idea of whether you need to see a doctor, and then you would have to go to a specialist for tests, and the treatment considered best. only a doctor can diagnose ADD. These symptoms sound like add but may not be as anxieties fears etc can cause distractions. ADD symptoms include short attention span. frequent fidgiting or squirming when seated for long periiods. frequent changing of tasks without finishing any.inattentive when being spoken directly to. carelessness and frequent losing of things including pencils school work etc. trouble keeping appointments, short term memory defective. trouble following simple instructions after being told.Impulsiveness blurting out words before thinking through or distracting others in the class. low grades, frequent daydreaming, immaturity, getting involved in dangerous activity without considering the consequences. Anger outbursts and trouble listening to authority. Disorganized and scattered thoughts , frequent careless mistakes, unfinished schoolwork and messy handwriting, hyperactivity , easily distracted , trouble with focus, and trouble remembering what has just been said or told to them like went in one ear and out the other. Attentiveness and completing tasks is a big issue. Procastination seems the only solution. |
