2001 Kawasaki smokes after warming up.? |
This 2 stroke throws smoke after warming up, I'm new to the dirt bike scene and was wandering if this is normal. I will visit my nearest Kawi dealer but they'll want money to tell me it normal. You didn't mention what model you had but it's probably a liquid cooled KX. Most of the newer MX bike smoke very little and less as they warm up and burn off the extra rich mixture from starting. If your bike is smoking heavily, and more so when warm, you have a problem. (I'm assuming you have the correct gas/oil mixture with the correct oil and premium gas.) Heavy smoke when warm means one of two things. You either have a leaking RH crankcase seal which allows oil to pass from your tranny into your crancase. This will be a blue smoke and very oily. The second possibility is that your coolant is leaking into your motor. This can be at the head gasket or a number of other places. The smoke will be white/grey and the residue in the pipe will be watery. It may also have a sweet smell when running. Both conditions are serious and will spell doom for a two stroke if allowed to continue. Both are very common in an older race motor. There, now that's free advice that's worth something. Source(s): Professional Kawasaki mechanic 1978-01 It's normal....no charge. 40 years in the business If it ain't smoking, you got SERIOUS trouble. Two cycle engines mix oil with gas (or you do it) before it gets burned in the combustion chamber(s), the smoke is the oil burning and it is perfectly normal. Could be u have more oil, than the recommended limit. Tryin to burn the excess oil. all 2 strokes throw smoke. you might be running rich but its better than running lean. tell the dealer to shove it. you can reduce the smoke by changing oil type but the beauty of 2 stroke is the sound and smoke. thats why they call them 2 smokes. i raced 125 gp bikes and loved every smell and sound of the 2 stroke motor. nothing beats it: ) |
