Suggest new bicycle parts... CHEAP!? |
I need to know what to replace, hopefully not going over $55( I'm a bit cheap, but trying to save for something) Tell me if I need to replace anything at all. I lost my ball bearings in my freewheel, you know the ones that are little and there's like 60 of em... So if I buy a new freewheel, will I get them with all of the gears? And to replace the old one, what tool do I need to take it out? Rear derrailier is broken, was plastic(snapped in half and has no tention). Cheap repalcement is fine. 2 spokes are broken, I replaced one with an old bike one, but I don't think it'll hold if I do any tricks. Any place to buy individual ones for like a dollar each? Also, since this was a bike I got a long time ago for christmas, probably from Wal-Mart, I don't want to spend more than it's worth anyway. Thanks for any help. Also I'm aware of just replacing the bike, but I'm gonna try to save for a dirt bike. wow... i know you said you want to fix this while saving up for a new bike, but honestly, $55 isn't going to do it by a long shot. these are big issues, especially compatibility issues. you'd do better to put the $55 towards your new bike. the fact the the derailler is plastic probably tells us the whole bike probably cost under $150. rear derailler? the cheapest rear derailler you'll find at performance or jenson is maybe $35 on sale? (a total guess) and probably won't be compatible with 7 gears in back, since bikes are now 9 & 10. individual spokes are cheap. just go to your local bike shop, since mail order places will probably only sell them in bulk for an entire wheel. but getting the wheel true will be tricky. ok... freewheel bearings... it sounds like what you're really talking about is the rear hub, since the freewheel is built into the hub. so replacing your hub means finding a 7-gear compatible hub for very cheap, and then cutting all your spokes and relacing with new spokes to your existing rim. this is called "wheel-building" and it's very tricky. but to answer your question, no it won't come with the 7 cogs (gears). you'd either need to re-use your existing one (if compatible) or buy new gears. and what exactly you buy is tricky. if it's an older bike, like back in the days of 7 gears on more expensive bikes, you could either have individual cogs that was held in place with a locking mechanism, or you could buy a pre-fab "cassette" of gears (like how bikes are now) that stays on the hub with a lock ring. in both cases, they require special tools to unlock. long story short, even dumping $100 isn't going to get it running very well. If you really need something to ride before you get your new bike, spend the $55 on a used bike off of craigslist. you'll get a better bike you can ride right away. hope this helps. ditto. decent rear der: http://cgi.ebay.com/sram-sx-5-mountain-b... $20 Its impossible to tell you a price for ball bearings considering there are about 1,000,000 million 'little ones'. if you have one, take it too youre local bike shop and they can help you out. about $.02 a peice spokes: local bike shop... $.25 a peice Free wheel remover: http://cgi.ebay.com/shimano-type-freewhe... $11 |
