My sister's husband died in a house fire last year. She is having to get an estate bond for the court so she can get their belonging's (a car and truck, their children's 4 wheeler's and dirt bike's, etc) back from the father in law that took things from the house while everyone else was grieving. Has anyone else been through something similiar? What all did you have to do as far as a bond? About how much did the bond cost and how much coverage did you have? How did everything turn out for you?
The cost of the bond depends on the amount of the bond. The amount of the bond depends on the value of the stuff.
It's not going to be a particularly expensive bond, IMO, maybe around $500.
You'll have to give a listing of the property to your local agent, and they should be able to get the bond for you. The UGLY part will be the probate court. Wow, what a rotten father in law. If he didn't have a will, the wife should get everything ANYWAY.
