Less teeth on sprocket..? |
I got a dirt bike, I would like to get it alittle faster in the long run. I need a new sprocket soon, it's getting thin and teeth are bending. I got a 51tooth now. is I get a 47tooth. Will I get it alot faster?.. I know I will loose some torque, in low end, but I have so much, so I can spare some. Yes, a 4 tooth smaller rear sprocket will make a noticeable difference in top speed, not outrageous, but noticeable. I would say stay with the 51, what is your concern with top speed on a dirt bike any way? MX is more about how fast you can go in tight spaces and over jumps and "whoops" ,than it is about flat out on a straight away. go for 4 teeth NO--less speed and more power or torque. The bike has a certain power and is matched by engineering the best rations to use for driving. .. What ever you decide to do. You must buy a new engine gear to match the rear sproket...Or the chain will not stay on board.. If you decide to get more speed on the top end--you will put a lot of wear slipping the clutch to get rolling from a stop... Take your pick gears or clutch??? I have a Suzuki Intruder 1400 and it will run up to 110 real easy. It is geared for torque and I love the power and the speed control around town..I don't have any speeding tickets how bout you???. It will help a little, but it's not going to solve your need for speed drasticly. Yes, you will see a difference in top end, not radical, but some. Yes you will lose low end torque too. Not a good trade off in a dirt bike, where torque is more important. I used to run a 175cc bike against 250 cc bikes. They took me in the flats but I overtook them in the corners, hill climbs and deep sand. The best way to get more top end speed, is to move up to a bigger bike. Have fun with what you have till you can afford to move up. yes |
