Nerve damage permanent? |
I crashed my dirt bike and had to go get a few stitches. The cut was pretty deep. 7 weeks later I still feel numbess so I'm guessing I got nerve damage. Is this gonna be permanent?? Will I ever at least feel any feeling around my cut?? It can heal on it's own, or it could be permanent. You have to give nerve problems time and sometimes they heal and sometimes they do not. Sometimes it can heal partially so you could feel some, but not everything. You should see a doctor because there are medications that can help the nerve heal, but most of all it does take time. Depends on how severe cut was made into nerve, age, ability to heal, etc. 7 wks. post injury is still to early to make a complete prognosis. Chances are it's permanent. I have a few friends who've had deep cuts/surgery (fingertip replacement, 8-inch long incision in stomach, my own small surgery on my back), and in each of these cases, the nerves were severed in the cut and have remained numb for years, and in one case, his entire life. If you don't get feeling back within, say, 3 months, I'd say you're not getting it back. The numbness in the cases I know all revolve within 1 inch of the scar. If yours spans more than that, I'd talk to a physician about it. |
