1990 Suzuki Katana 600 problems?

I have a 1990 Suzuki Katana 600, i recently cleaned the carbs out, they were filthy, we put the bike back together, and like 8 miles later, the bike started popping and died. We took the carbs back off, and they were filthy again? We also cleaned out the gas tank and checked the filter on the petcock or fuelcock. What do you think is the problem, its black dirt, and its making the bike not work as soon as dirt gets into the carbs. Any mechanics out there that can help, please do!!

Did you COMPLETELY disassemble the carbs? Likely if you didn't the sediment was trapped in the passages that connect the fuel feed to each carb. The only way to get all the debris out is to stop it from occurring, meaning the tank will need to be replaced or sealed with something like Kreem or Red Cote. Once you stop the debris from getting into the system cleaning the carbs meticulously should get things straightened out. An inline fuel filter should help prevent this from occurring again.
