What are some good food choices besides Bananas before a bike ride?

I can't eat bananas right now during ragweed season because they make my allergies worse.

Didn't know you were suppose to eat certain things before you took a bike ride. Maybe I should start?! lol

Hope you find your answer! Later.

Before? Depends on the distance. bananas are also good while your riding. Good, slow burning carbs & the peels degrade quickly. Throw them in the woods.
Yes, pasta & rice. If it's a long ride, I like a full breakfast a half-hour or so before. Protein shake - milk, whey & some fruit &/or yogurt.
Any carbs food - fruits, bread, cereal. If your tummy can handle it during the ride.

God only made 2 perfect foods: bananas and grits.

You obviously already know about bananas. With grits be sure to get the unprocessed stone-ground kind. Depending upon where you live, you might have to buy it online.

I hope you aren't allergic to them. You'll have to try to see.

I'm over the hill now but I have lots of trophies and medals to attest to my pre-race grits diet.

Yea, yea, I know people like to make fun of grits. Tell them I'll send multiple photos of me on the podium back in the day if they'll send theirs.

Don't eat big right before a ride. I used to do this 16 mile ride and eat big in the middle thinking it would help. Nope. When I ate a banana, a tomato and one piece of healthy bread, I did lots better. Good fluids and electrolytes too.

Avoid heavily spiced foods, and foods famous for being more difficult to digest. Minimize the fats and dairy, they take lots of water to digest. A Gyros is not a good idea.

Foods with high water content, complex carbos are good.

Fruit---Banana, orange, apple, melon, peach, grapes all good. Whole grains-Those fancy complex breads are ok. juice too.

Take some raisins with you.

I don't eat anything before a ride, but if do a extra long trail ride I like to take an apple to eat after the first hour..

Rice or pasta

I eat half of a Zone protein bar.
