How do I connect my bike chain?

(i asked a question simlar to this earlier) i already have a powerlink like the one SRAM makes, http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Model... but i can't get it to connect. i don't have a chain tool and the local stores i went to don't have one either so i'm out of luck on that. are there any other ways i can connect the powerlink?
thanks!

if the chain is the right length you shouldnt need a tool. the two plates just snap together. you put the pins through the large holes and pull and they snap into the smaller holes. what you may find though as that out of the box chains are usually long and you need to remove a few links to make it fit your bike, and you do need a tool for that.

If you have a female hole in each end of the chain, the male part of the powerlink goes through but won't engage the other powerlink, there's a good chance that you have the WRONG powerlink.
Different chains have different widths. For instance a 10 speed powerlink won't work on a 9 speed chain because the pins are too short to stick through far enough to allow the detent in the pin to engage the other side. Also, if you get a powerlink too long it may fit but will affect shifting. Take the chain to a bike shop and get the proper powerlink.

I take it that you need to remove a pin or two from your chain to fit this link?
If so, you could remove the chain and try filing or grinding down one of the protruding ends of the pin which you want to remove, then with a hammer and a nail of an appropriate size you should be able to tap out the pin.
