Chain slips? |
I have economy simprex derailleurs on my 80's peugeot (PGN10). Recently, I've been slipping the rear mid-gears and I've checked that the derailleur is straight (it is) and I think I have the H/L dialed in, pivot points are oiled and fair running order; however as I shift it takes several spins for the gear to set firmly. You mention 80's Pug and a dereailleur I've never heard of. So unles you have put on some STI brake/gear shifters on your bike, I can only assume you're using the standard downtube friction shifters (I love 'em). You really shouldn't be having issues with these, simply pulling the shifter on way tautens the cable, pulling the derailleur, and vice versa. The only thing I can suggest is to maybe increase the amount of friction - They may be slipping - give the bolt on the shifter a tighten (should be able to do with a flathead screwdriver) these old non-indexed systems are pretty simple. i suspect either your chain or freewheel needs replaced. there is likely wear there causing your problem. i suggest replacing both in this case. nashbar still has some stuff that works on older bikes, or you can do a search to find a chain and freewheel. that'll be the hard part. |
