Are Speed Play pedals that much better than Time. I own Time carbon pedals.?

I have fallen a few times clicking in and out, my cycle budies say it is how you learn. A friend said his wife uses speed play and they are a lot easier. My cleats are a bit worn and in a few months it will be time for some new - should I consider speed play or just stick with the Time.

I had Time a number of years ago (and they may have improved since) but I got rid of them because they kept getting stuck and not releasing despite adjusting the release pressure.

Since I also wanted something that had freer float (ability to rotate the foot freely without release to prevent knee pain) and I like everything that rotates to be light I tried Speedplay ... and three sets later (plus 2 sets of Frogs .. the mtb version of speedplay ... on my tandem and mountain bike) I don't use anything else on my road bikes. You do want good hard soles on your shoes though since the contact area for the pedal is fairly small.

In my view, there is no comparison ... Speedplay are perfect for me. Technically, they are among the lightest and allow the greatest cornering angle and raise the foot above the pedal spindle among the least of any road pedal. Furthermore, they are serviceable and hold up well ... I still have my first set on my "dirty weather road bike" after 15 years.

BUT pedals are personal so I'm not going to claim they are better/preferable for everyone.

Personal preference. They all work the same try loosening the tension on your Times to make it easier to get out. It's all about practice and getting use to your pedals.
