Why do bikers always ride there bike in the road?

90 percent of the time when i see somone riding there bike, they're riding it on the road. why do they do that? im not trying to sound like a dad or something but dont they realize that if they fall off there bike, even if its not there falt they fell, that a car behind them might run them over? do they think they are cool or something .why not just ride there bike on the sidewalk? isnt that what a sidewalk is for? walking, riding a bike or scooter... running..

Are you F**king stupid?...You really are.

Are you seriously saying that cyclists should cycle on the sidewalk?

I travel at an average of 20-25mph, and you expect me to cycle on the sidewalk?

Honestly, are you a troll or something, intentionally trying to annoy me? if not, how the hell do you survive every day? How do you not drown when you're in the bath? Do you cut yourself when using a knife and fork? Do you have to spend 2 minutes chewing your food to prevent yourself from choking?

To be blunt - You're a retard of epic proportions.

you seem a little uninformed on this subject.

Sidewalk = a usually paved path for pedestrians at the side of a street; therefore the phrase "Side Walk"

Actually in the USA, Bicycles were here before cars were, and the first roads were built for bikes around 1900.

Sidewalks are pretty much what they say; a path between houses and roads for people to walk on. In some places, it is ILLEGAL to ride a bike on a sidewalk.

By the time people start riding bikes on roads with cars, they are fairly well skilled cyclists and very very seldom fall.

Cars and bikes in the USA are supposed to be able to co-exist on the same road at the same time.

In the law for most states, bikes are supposed to be on the roads, except the really high speed roads like interstates.

Bicycles on sidewalks are dangerous to pedestrians. Most, but not all, local regulations forbid riding bicycles on sidewalks. I have seen some municipal bike paths that direct bikes onto sidewalks, but they are the exception rather than the rule. I do ride on a sidewalk from time to time, but only when there is no other choice because of the way the road is configured or traffic.

HTH

At least in canada bikes with 26" wheels are illegal to ride on sidewalks, its deemed as more of a safety hazard to walking pedestrians. Also riding a bike is seen as a environmentally way of commuting and therefore many municipalities are trying to build bike lanes for this purpose. Just go into the left lane to pass them, that way no accidents :P.

As to the comment about running someone over, the driver is required to be sufficiently far behind whoever they are following (car, tractor, bicycle, combine, or whatnot) to stop without running into them. If you are following too close and a cyclist falls in front of you and you run them over, sounds like you're liable.

And yes, my spandex team uniform DOES make me cool :)

i agree with Tom P. If we cyclists rode on the sidewalks, we'd have to stop more often for pedestrians and cars in the way. if we ride on the sidewalk we're more likely to fall than if we were on the street because of cracks and uneven sidewalks. we don't think we're "cool" riding on the street. the truth is, that it is faster and more practical to ride on the street. cars can see us better when we're on the street. if we were on the side wal, cars wouldn' be able to see us as well and we'd more likely be hit.

It's a bit hard to ride 20-40 mph in the dirt on the side of the road or on sidewalks. Where would you have us ride? Not at all? silly question.

I agree with Tom P.
