Are all tyres made of rubber?

Some feel as if they are made of different materials. I have some tyres that say "nylon" on the side, yet they feel like rubber. Or does this refer to the cord?

Yes, Nylon refers to the cord or casing. Rubber compounds make up the tread. There are different additives to the rubber giving different wear, grip and color properties among other things. The most common additive is carbon, hence the black color.

EDIT: Actually butyl rubber is termed and considered rubber: http://www.azom.com/details.asp?ArticleI...

Latex or natural rubber is used little in bike tires anymore.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Latex

The term rubber is not exclusive to latex in industry useage.

The cord

tyres are made from rubber on the outside and inside a combination of nylon and steel to give them their strength. there is another ingredient inside the tyre but not sure of its name

My g/f has a spare tyre made of cakes and chocolate.

In answer to your question, sorry I don't know.

My mate's spare tyre isn't made from rubber but all those surplus kebabs and beer.

They are also made from nylon

many are made of kevlar

is god to use this rubber som call shepskin but is god to use in proventon of the deseses potecton is to be never forgoten

Tires or tyres are made of several materials. The nylon you refer to is some of the cords. They also have barrier fabrics to resist puncture, as in Vectran or Kevlar. Steel or Kevlar is used as bead material. The actual tread is a synthetic rubber compound. There are no natural rubber tires in use anywhere in today's world. The sticky compounds are silicone rubber carbon mixes. The various color tires have carbon in the mix as carbon is necessary for durability. It is Carbon Black -- a specific carbon molecule that makes black tires black

NO tires are made of rubber anymore (sorry everyone). They are made of butyl, as are most inner tubes.

yes
