Do you have to wear a helmet if you are over 18? |
in Oregon, if you are over 18, do you have to wear a helmet or will you be cited? i plan on riding to work and i need to know. Helmet laws are either state or local. Here's a great web link for you: http://www.helmets.org/mandator.htm... According to this site Oregon has a state law enacted in 1994 everyone under 16 must wear helmets. I wear one even though I don't have to. Just wear the helmet, and have a better chance of making it home everytime you go out riding. It's cheap insurance. After the ex bikerider I met with brain damage from a bike accident w/o helmet, I'll never complain about helmets again. The man was drooling, without the use of one arm, dragging one leg, barely able to speak. The worst part was, when I had talked with him for awhile, I realized that this was a very intelligent man trapped in the prison of that ramshackle body, who had lost the ability to express himself. Imagine living out the rest of your fourscore and ten years that way, if you can. No one is invulnerable. Take a few precautions. Live long and prosper. HH No matter what your are is, a helmet is always best! Accidents don't only happen to the young....Play it safe....wear a helmet! Most states make it mandatory to wear a helmet if you're on municipal roads. Even if it's not required, wear one! There are very few things that I'll ever tell someone they *should* do, but wearing a helmet is one of them. No, helmets don't protect you from all injuries (or even most, really), but they do protect the most important part of your body. Most injuries will heal, but your noggin is a fragile thing! There are plenty of stories and pictures to go around of people horribly injured or paralyzed from head injuries.....and it only takes one little accident to change you for a lifetime or to take your life from you. It doesn't even have to be your fault. Please, wear a helmet. :o) |
