What is a good size bike for a teenager 5,10?????? |
I need to know a good size for a teenagers mountain bike thats good for a boy thats 5.10.. Plz help Yep, somewhere around 18" should fit well. Different brands come in different sizes, but anywhere in that 17"-19" range should work great for him. If he already rides, you might try to buy the bike based on the kind of riding he likes best or wants to get into. For instance: 1) If he has a lot of steep hills to climb and mostly does cross-country riding, then I'd err on the side of the smaller frame and have it set up with a long stem (the part that connects the handlebars to the bike). That will help him keep weight on the front wheel and have more control in those situations. 2) If he rides over a lot of rocks and likes the downhill or stunt aspects of riding, then the larger frame with a short stem might make him happier (you might have to ask the shop to swap out the stem, or purchase a new one at a discount). 3) If he wants to focus more on small jumps and stunts, then the smaller frame with a short stem will be better. (If he's really into jumping, you should get a jump-specific bike that's made to handle the abuse they get put through.) If you're buying the bike as a birthday surprise, try to find out as much as you can from your son about what he wants and the kind of riding he likes best, and tell that to the guys at the bike shop so they can try to best fit him. Hope this helps and wasn't confusing. Hmmm, not much info to go off of there, but what the heck. I'm 5' 10" and I ride a 17 inch bike which is about as small as I'd want to go. I should actually probably be on a 19 inch but I went with a smaller frame because I was racing at the time and it felt better. if I were going to buy a new bike I'd go with a 19 inch so that's what I recommend to you. Keep in mind that you can be 5'10" and have a 30 inch inseam and a long torso or a 36 inch inseam and a short torso. Bottom line is I'd get fit by someone who knows what they're talking about - i.e. the guy that the other salepeople go to for answers at your local bike shop - not the first kid you meet on the salesfloor. yep, answers above are on the money 17 is a little small, 18 just right, 19 a little big... kind of sounds like Goldielocks... If he's still growing go 19. You really need to try 'em out to see for yourself. If it's a gift ask if you can excahnge for another size if need be. |
